In the heart of Normandy, in the Calvados department in France, lies the Pays d’Auge production area, renowned for its high-quality calvados. It is here, near the village of Saint Pierre, that the Calvados Marquis de Saint Loup are born—a historic and distinguished brand that embodies the most authentic Norman tradition. Marquis de Saint Loup meticulously selects only the finest apples from high-stem orchards, cultivated using sustainable methods that respect nature.
The harvest takes place manually between September and November, when the fruit reaches ideal ripeness. These apples are then pressed in ancient vertical presses typical of the region, to extract solely the pure juice from the first pressing—the essential base for a cider of extraordinary purity. This juice ferments naturally in oak casks, a slow process lasting several weeks that precedes double distillation in repass stills (alambic charentais), yielding an eau-de-vie of fine and elegant character.
Once distilled, the calvados rests in small oak casks in the ancient cellars of the estate, where maturation sculpts its aromatic profile. Over the years, the aromas evolve from fresh notes of ripe apple towards a complex bouquet: spicy hints of vanilla and cinnamon intertwine with nuances of dried fruit, nuts, and a toasted touch, imparting extraordinary depth.
The Marquis de Saint Loup calvados range includes a precious collection of AOC calvados, obtained from lots acquired during the transfers of historic Norman distilleries. Patiently aged in the ancient damp and cool cellars of the property in Pays d’Auge, these treasures represent the pinnacle of calvados craftsmanship, perfect for connoisseurs and special occasions.
