Tenuta l’Illuminata

La Morra, one of the most iconic villages of the Langhe region, is perched on a hill near Alba and is renowned for producing Barolo, one of the world’s most prestigious and valued wines. Since 2014, the La Morra area has been part of UNESCO’s World Heritage, included in the Vineyards of Piedmont landscape.

Tenuta L’Illuminata, owned by Guido Folonari, is located here and is recognised for excellence in Piedmontese winemaking. The estate cultivates 10 hectares of vineyards at an average altitude of 340 metres above sea level with a south-west facing exposure on Miocene calcareous and sandy-loam soils.

This unique terroir combination enables the production of high-quality DOCG and DOC wines such as Barolo DOCG, Barbera d’Alba DOC, Langhe Nebbiolo DOC, and Dolcetto d’Alba DOC, true symbols of authentic Piedmontese viticulture.

The winery has been fully renovated with modern vinification and ageing technologies, using French oak barriques and large Slavonian oak casks of 25 hectolitres. The ageing cellar is crucial for developing structure and complexity in the wines before bottling.

Tenuta L’Illuminata’s Barolo stands out for its Sant’Anna Geographical Indication (MGA), an area within the Barolo DOCG. This MGA system, active since the 2010 vintage, defines vineyard zones commune by commune, emphasising territorial differences and preserving the uniqueness of individual crus.

Choosing Tenuta L’Illuminata’s wines means investing in niche products that authentically express the Langhe terroir and Piedmontese tradition. Discover more on Philarmonica.it about the unique characteristics of La Morra wines, sustainable viticulture, and ageing methods.
